Services

Safety First takes pride in providing workable and value-added solutions to the sometimes complex issues involved in effective fire evacuation scheme management. These solutions are carefully developed not only to satisfy Fire Service requirements, but also to address the needs of building owners and tenants.

FIRE EVACUATION SCHEME IMPLEMENTATION

This service includes a site inspection, preparation of an evacuation scheme and assembly plan, design of emergency procedure notices and submission of the application to the New Zealand Fire Service for approval. We then liaise with tenants to appoint fire wardens and prepare a register for persons with disabilities, train wardens, co-ordinate and monitor an initial trial evacuation (where applicable) and develop a database for generation of reports.

Earthquake, bomb threat, gas leak, chemical spill, power failure and armed hold-up procedures can be included in the scheme where necessary.

FIRE EVACUATION SCHEME MANAGEMENT

In order for an evacuation scheme to remain operative, the owner of the building is required to maintain the scheme by either running six-monthly trial evacuations, or training and assessing the capability of the permanent occupants to manage an evacuation of the building in a fire emergency.

Safety First specialises in the ongoing maintenance of evacuation schemes providing the building owner with complete coverage in terms of the requirements of the Fire Safety and Evacuation of Buildings Regulations. We liaise with the property manager/owner and any contractors necessary to arrange a trial evacuation, notify the New Zealand Fire Service in accordance with the regulations, conduct and monitor the trial evacuation, debrief wardens following the trial evacuation and prepare and distribute the trial evacuation report on behalf of the building owner.

Safety First can also facilitate, in consultation with contractors, a complete full systems test coinciding with a trial evacuation to ensure that building systems are actually functioning in a real emergency - thus providing an audit of your systems.

Please contact us if you would like Safety First to supply a quotation to implement and/or manage the fire evacuation scheme for your property.

CIVIL DEFENCE & FIRST AID AUDITS

Safety First also offer a full audit service to establish the civil defence and first aid equipment needs of the client to ensure that the equipment and products are suitable and adequate for their needs. These audits are based on the guidelines set out by the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management.

A comprehensive audit report is prepared detailing the items required and costs involved as well as any recommendations for the particular site.

As an alternative to having an audit carried out by one of our consultants we offer a self-auditing option.  This option allows an audit to be carried out by a site staff member using either an online auditing form through the Safety First website or a hardcopy of the audit form can be supplied and faxed back to Safety First.

For a list of civil defence and first aid products please refer to the products section.

TRAINING

Safety First provides a range of training options; from basic staff and warden training to specialist training in fire, earthquake, civil defence, first aid, casualty handling, basic rescue, bomb threat and armed hold-up procedures.

Please contact us if you would like further information or refer to our training section for more information on fire extinguisher or warden training courses.
